Usage Notes
Pentatomidae is treated as plural in formal taxonomic usage ("Pentatomidae are..."), though singular constructions occur in informal contexts. The "" is sometimes applied more broadly to other pentatomoid ; precise identification requires examination of the scutellum and genitalia. The family's monophyly is well-supported, though classifications remain under revision.
