A Swedish botanist, zoologist, and physician who formalized the modern system of naming organisms called binomial nomenclature and is considered the father of taxonomy.

Etymology

Named after Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778), who Latinized his name to Carolus Linnaeus. 'Linné' is derived from a lime tree, which was a symbol of his family.
