Carlos Justiniano Ribeiro Chagas (1879–1934) was a Brazilian parasitologist and physician who discovered Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted by triatomine bugs (commonly known as 'kissing bugs').
