A of rhinoceros ( , ) native to the Near East and a major pest of date palms (Phoenix dactylifera). bore into fruit stalks and frond bases, often causing structural failure of fruit bunches and leaves; larvae typically develop in decaying organic matter but older larvae can attack living palm tissue including the trunk apex and roots. Distinguished from the related pest Oryctes agamemnon by a more slender body and the presence of a , subapical, downward-pointing tooth on the foretibia.
