From the type Ephemerella (diminutive of Ephemera, ) + -oidea (superfamily suffix).
Example
The nymph of Drunella ( , superfamily Ephemerelloidea) bears plate-like or leaf-like gills on the , whereas Caenoidea nymphs such as Caenis possess long, thread-like filamentous gills.
