Definition

A of (twisted-wing ) comprising a single extant , Bahiaxenos relictus, described in 2009 from relictual sand dunes in Bahia, Brazil. The family is considered the most basal lineage among living Strepsiptera, making it the sister group to all other extant members of the order. Known only from a single male specimen; and associations remain undetermined.

From Bahia (the Brazilian state of discovery) + Greek xenos (stranger, guest, or ), with the suffix -idae.
