These insects are distinguished by unique wing venation features, particularly the absence of the areola postica in the forewing. They are distributed worldwide with highest diversity in Asia, and are found in dead leaf and leaf litter on trees.

Identification

Distinguished from other by the absence of areola postica in the forewing (shared with Peripsocidae) combined with the rectangular pterostigma and horizontal wing posture. The short, broad forewings held flat rather than roof-like over the body separate from most other Psocomorpha. Hindwing venation with Rs and M connected by crossvein provides additional diagnostic character.

Worldwide distribution with highest in Asia. Fourteen in Ectopsocus and Ectopsocopsis recorded from North America. Documented from Colombia, Iran, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Brazil (Bahia State).
