Identification
Oebalus insularis can be distinguished from the similar Oebalus poecilus by the presence of a small tooth on the inner rim of the lateral angle of the pygophore. The paramere is regularly concave when viewed laterally and has a linear apex in view. In Florida rice fields, it may be confused with Oebalus ornatus, from which it can be separated by developmental timing (O. insularis takes longer to complete development) and subtle morphological differences in genital structures.
