Synecdoche grisea is a of planthopper in the Achilidae, a group of fulgoroid insects commonly known as achilid planthoppers. The species was described by Van Duzee in 1908 and is known from scattered records across the eastern and midwestern United States. Like other achilids, it is presumed to feed on fungal rather than plant sap, distinguishing it ecologically from most other planthopper families. The Synecdoche is part of the tribe Plectoderini within the Myconinae.
